What's wrong for being just "Malaysian" instead of putting the specific race when it is not accurate at all, especially for those multiracial babies. What's the purpose of "1Malaysia" if all of us still need to be differentiate by our race?
Look at all the extravagant 1Malaysia advertising, billboards and logos liberally plastered all over government uniforms, government buildings and election freebies, it is all meaningless because when it comes to actual policy, it was not practise as what being preached that we are united Malaysia where all Malaysian are equal. Indah khabar dari rupa, bukan? :)
“Data collection is still important in any country but somewhere along the lines on how to do these collection. it will take some time because we are so used to profiling people along racial lines — a lot of people might not be happy if they were not identified according to their race. We have to slowly educate people to think along the ‘Malaysian’ lines".
No against to the statement above. It is true in a way. We need to admit no doubt that YES there are many out there perhaps want to be known according to their race. It is easy and no problem for those whose born as single race. What about the biracial/multiracial citizens? Does the birth cert allow us to put all the 6 ethnics if they are?Definitely no. So why don't just consider to known them as "MALAYSIAN"? Just because the current system does not allow this, they are force to choose one of the many ethnics in their blood or just choose "lain-lain" to make the process easy. Is that fair? Think about it people.
